One of the main goals of this program is to create awareness towards your personal safety in your everyday life in order to avoid becoming a victim. This course is designed to teach you how to prevent potential life threatening situations, and to provide you with the tools to escape a violent encounter. You will also learn how predators select their victims and be shown how to fight off an attacker to give you the best chance of survival.

Santo Amenta


Santo was born in Sicily in 1956 and commenced Martial Arts training, specifically Go Ju Japanese Karate at age 15 after being severely bullied at school. Santo achieved Black Belt status just prior to his 18th birthday and commenced as an instructor in 1973. He continued instructing for a period of over 25 years establishing 21 schools under the Bob Jones Corporation, comprising over 1000 students.

During his career Santo has won numerous competitions including Victorian Black Belt tournament in 1976, Black Belt of the Year – Bob Jones Corporation 1977, Amateur Victorian Champion in Kumite (Fighting in the ring) in 1978 and was Australian Champion in Kata 1978 – 1981 and he retired as champion. Santo currently holds the rank of 8th Dan.

During the late 1970s to late 1980s Santo was in high demand both nationally and abroad, in particular in New Zealand as a seminar speaker and special guest, teaching technical refinement for senior instructors and in particular specialised weapons training.

In addition to teaching Karate, Santo in collaboration with other colleagues, was instrumental in developing and introducing self defence classes for women and children in the early 1980's and continues to be an industry leader in this area. Santo loves teaching self defence: “The self defence classes are very practical and high energy but we always have lots of fun and heaps of laughs.”

Program Outline

In this program you will learn realistic and effective street self defence. It doesn't matter if you're unfit or have never done martial arts before. This program is suitable for people from all walks of life and all skill levels. You will walk away from this course with a new found awareness to detect and avoid trouble and you will be able to effectively defend yourself if you need to.

This program is run as 6 x intensive 90 minute weekly sessions.

6 Part Program

Week 1:
  • Build your awareness skills and hone your senses to become attuned to signs of danger
  • Learn to avoid and get out of dangerous situations
  • Delve into the psyche of the attacker - opportunistic vs targeted attacks
  • Street smarts - the rules of defence
  • Intro to basic self defence techniques to prevent attack
  • Week 2:
  • Utilising personal and environmental effects as tools of distraction
  • Getting out of hand and wrist grab
  • Honing your sense of sight
  • Week 3:
  • Refine wrist grab from all directions
  • The frontal grab - clothes or throat
  • Honing your sense of sound
  • Week 4:
  • Rear attacks - hair grab and bear hug
  • Honing your sense of touch
  • Week 5:
  • Striking back - ear slap, nerve points, shin and knee kicks, fists and elbows
  • Honing your CHI force
  • Week 6:
  • Bringing it all together
  • Role play and practice
  • Designing your own attack and defence
